Beginner Bookworms donates books to children who need them most, offers free interactive learning tools, and builds a lifelong love of reading — one child at a time.
Children who read well read more. Children who read more learn more. We believe every child — regardless of background or zip code — deserves access to books and the joy of reading.
We collect and distribute age-appropriate books directly to underserved children, classrooms, shelters, and community centers across the country.
Our free interactive worksheets help children in 1st–5th grade build critical reading and writing skills at their own pace, with instant feedback.
Wormy is our friendly AI reading assistant — safe, encouraging, and focused on helping 1st–5th graders understand words, sentences, stories, and writing.
Beginner Bookworms also supports students who are learning English. Our ELL tools use simple Spanish support, word bridges, sentence frames, and guided reading practice to help students grow stronger in English.
Students can use Spanish explanations when helpful, while the goal stays focused on building English reading, vocabulary, and writing skills.
ELL practice gives students clear English sentence patterns like “The character feels ___ because ___” so they can answer with confidence.
When Spanish support is selected, Wormy can explain directions, words, and worksheet clues in Spanish while helping students learn the English skill.
When donation support opens, gifts will help put books in children's hands and keep our free literacy tools available to every family.
We purchase or collect donated books, sort them by reading level, and deliver them to children who need them — completely free.
We partner with teachers and community leaders to identify children most in need and ensure books reach the right hands.
Our worksheets and Wormy AI remain completely free for all children. Your support helps us keep it that way and expand our library.
We're growing into new cities and new grade levels. Future support will help us reach more children every single month.
"Before Beginner Bookworms, Ella avoided reading whenever she could. Now she sounds out harder words, understands stories more clearly, and is already reading at a higher level with much more confidence."
"The free worksheets are incredible. My students complete them online and get instant feedback. It's changed how I do homework — and the kids actually enjoy it!"
"Wormy helped me understand what 'perseverance' means! It used a story about a caterpillar. I'll never forget it now. Wormy is my favorite!"
Join us as we grow our mission — one book, one child, and one learning moment at a time.
A nonprofit built on the belief that every child deserves to read, dream, and grow.
Beginner Bookworms is led by Jake Babula, the developer and CEO behind Wormy AI and the digital tools that power this literacy platform.
The mission is simple: help young readers build stronger literacy skills, improve reading confidence, and support cognitive growth through accessible books, interactive worksheets, and Wormy AI.
Wormy AI is designed as a friendly reading assistant that helps children understand words, strengthen comprehension, practice writing, and stay engaged while learning at their own pace, all with an environmentally-friendly design. Unlike many cloud-based Artificial Intelligence tools, Wormy uses an advanced lightweight learning brain built directly into the site, so it does not rely on large data centers or water-consuming infrastructure.
Reading proficiency by 3rd grade is one of the strongest predictors of long-term academic success. Yet millions of children fall behind every year.
We serve children ages 4–12, with special focus on the critical K–5 years when reading habits are formed for life.
We prioritize communities where book access is limited and school resources are stretched thin.
We work directly with Title I schools to supplement classroom libraries and support struggling readers.
Children in transitional housing often face disrupted schooling. We bring books and stability.
We provide bilingual books and adapted worksheets for children learning English.
Library deserts are real. We ship books and provide online tools to children anywhere.
Our digital worksheets and Wormy AI are 100% free for any family, anytime. No zip code required.
Your donation, time, or simply sharing our mission helps more children discover the joy of reading.
Online donation support is being prepared and will be available soon. For questions, contact beginnerbookworms@gmail.com.

Beginner Bookworms aims to make reading practice easier to access for every learner.
Beginner Bookworms is designed to support children, families, teachers, English learners, and readers with different learning needs. We aim to make the website clear, readable, keyboard-friendly, and usable on phones, tablets, and computers.
We try to use standard HTML, labels, headings, buttons, and readable content so the site can work better with screen readers, browser zoom, keyboard navigation, and other assistive tools.
Some interactive worksheet features, AI responses, images, or embedded tools may not be perfect for every assistive technology setup. We are still improving the site and appreciate reports about accessibility barriers.
If a page, worksheet, button, form, color, instruction, or Wormy AI response is hard to use, please use the bug report form or email beginnerbookworms@gmail.com. Include the page, device, browser, and a short description of the issue if possible.
Accessibility is an ongoing process. Beginner Bookworms will continue improving clarity, navigation, mobile usability, reading support, and compatibility with assistive tools over time.
